When a character suffers a wound, the pain may cause the character to suffer a few seconds disorientation, drop what he/she is holding or even lose consciousness. He/she must make a dice roll using his/her WP + Combat (including specialisms in Toughness and Resisting initial pain of wounds) to avoid being distracted by the pain of the wound.
The following modifiers apply to the dice roll:
Situation | Modifier |
Weapon doing damage was Impaling | 2 |
Weapon doing damage was Cutting | 0 |
Weapon doing damage was Blunt | -2 |
Attack struck character's Leg, Hand or Arm | 3 |
Attack struck character's Throat, Eyes, Chest or Abdomen | 0 |
Attack struck character's Groin or Head | -3 |
Wound was a Scratch | +6 |
Light wound | +3 |
Medium wound | 0 |
Serious wound | -3 |
Critical wound | -6 |
The amount of distraction depends on the dice roll result:
Dice roll result | Meaning |
Zero or less | Falls unconscious - passes out through the pain |
1 to 3 | Stunned - character loses all remaining action points for this combat turn and suffers an additional -3 penalty on all dice rolls during the remainder of this combat turn. A character struck on the arm or hand will drop whatever he/she was holding in that hand. |
4 to 6 | Staggered - character loses one action point and suffers an additional -1 penalty on all dice rolls during the remainder of this combat turn. A character struck on the hand will drop whatever he/she was holding in that hand. |
7 or more | No effect |
Note that the immediate reaction to a wound is worked out before the ongoing impairment associated with that wound takes effect.
