2.44.4 Composing a piece of music

If a character spends a month composing a piece of music, at the end of the month he/she should make a dice roll using his/her Music (including relevant composing specialisms) + IQ. There is also a modifier for the complexity and difficulty of the piece of music of between +3 (for a very simple piece) to -3 (for a very demanding piece).

The dice roll result determines how good the piece of music is, as follows:

Dice roll result Meaning
3 or lower Abysmal piece - audiences find the piece horrible even if well played (gives a -4 modifier to performance dice rolls to people singing or playing the piece)
3 1/2 - 6 Mediocre piece - audiences find the piece dull or uninspiring even if well played (gives a -2 modifier to performance dice rolls to people singing or playing the piece)
6 1/2 - 10 Competent piece - appeals to a section of most audiences, and the rest find it acceptable (gives a +0 modifier to performance dice rolls to people singing or playing the piece)
10 1/2 - 15 Good piece - appeals to most people in an audience (gives a +1 modifier to performance dice rolls to people singing or playing the piece)
15 1/2 or more Excellent piece - a classic piece that appeals to almost everyone in the audience (gives a +2 modifier to performance dice rolls to people singing or playing the piece)
