2.45.2 Judging distances

A character can use his/her Navigation skill to judge distances accurately. There are two main types of distance that can be judged in this way:

Judging distance travelled

A character can judge the distance travelled during a journey, through working out speed travelled, looking at how the position of landmarks has shifted etc. To judge distance travelled accurately (i.e. to the nearest kilometre), a character must make a dice roll using his/her Navigation (including judging distances/judging distance travelled specialisms) + PE.

The difficulty value is equal to three times the number of kilometres travelled, and, if the character fails the dice roll, he/she will overestimate or underestimate the distance by up to one kilometre per point by which he/she failed the dice roll.

Judging distance to landmarks

A character can judge the distance to a landmark that he/she can see. To judge distance travelled accurately (i.e. to the nearest kilometre), a character must make a dice roll using his/her Navigation (including judging distances/judging distance to landmarks specialisms) + PE.

The difficulty value is equal to the number of kilometres that the landmark is away, and, if the character fails the dice roll, he/she will overestimate or underestimate the distance by up to one kilometre per point by which he/she failed the dice roll.
