2.47.1 Solving problems and puzzles

A character can work out the solution to a problem or puzzle if he/she makes a dice roll using his/her Reasoning (including solving puzzles specialism) + IQ.

The difficulty depends on how difficult the problem is to solve from 2 for a simple puzzle to 15 for a very cryptic puzzle.

It normally takes a minute to attempt to solve a puzzle. There is a bonus on the dice roll if the character has spent a long time trying to solve the puzzle. The bonus varies from +2 for 10 minutes, +4 for an hour, +6 for a day to +8 for a week.

A puzzle may require some pre-requisite knowledge (e.g. a pun on words in a foreign language). If the character lacks this knowledge, he/she suffers a penalty of -5 on attempts to solve the problem.

One common type of puzzle that characters may face is the riddle, a verse posing a question.
