2.57.4 Finding food and water

If a character spends several hours foraging, he/she may be able to find food and water. This represents scavenging, foraging, fishing, hunting and/or setting up traps to catch food. The character must make a dice roll using his/her Survival (including finding food and water specialism plus any specialism in the environment type) + WP (willpower is key because of the perseverence necessary to accomplish this task).

The difficulty of the dice roll depends on the scarcity of edible materials in the environment, for example:

Scarcity of food Difficulty value
Easy to find (e.g. temperate woods, reefs, cities) 2
Average (e.g. plains, rivers) 5
Scarce (e.g. mountains, caverns, marsh) 8
Rare (e.g. desert, frozen wastes) 12

If the dice roll is successful, the character gathers enough food for one person for one day, plus an equal additional amount for every two points by which he/she makes the dice roll.

A character is allowed only one foraging dice roll per day.

A character without food or water suffers a penalty of -2 on the living rough dice roll for that day.
