2.60.3 Catching items

A character can catching items thrown or fired at the character if he/she makes a dice roll using his/her Throwing (including Catching items specialism) + PE. In combat, he/she can do this as a reaction to being fired at.

The difficulty depends on the nature of item being caught, how far away from the character it is and the speed at which it is travelling, as follows:

Item is very small and difficult to see (e.g. coin) 1
Item is normal and easy to catch (e.g. ball) 0
Item is large, heavy or awkward to catch (e.g. spear) 2
Item is sharp (e.g. arrow) or dangerous to catch (e.g. flaming) +2
Speed of item being caught Difficulty
Item is travelling slowly, up to 2 metres per second (e.g. ball thrown gently) +0
Item is travelling normally, up to 5 metres per second (e.g. ball thrown normally) +2
Item is travelling quickly, roughly 10 metres per second (e.g. thrown weapon) +5
Item is travelling very quickly, roughly 20 metres per second (e.g. fired projectile, such as arrow) +8
Item is travelling superhumanly fast, at 50 metres per second or more (e.g. bullet) +12
How close to the character Difficulty
Very close (e.g. aimed at the character's body or hands) +0
Close (e.g. aimed at the character's head or groin) +2
Stretch (e.g. at character's legs/feet or well above his/her head or up to a metre to the side of the character) +4
Leap (e.g. character has to jump some distance, e.g. a couple of metres, to get to the object, and will change his/her position on the combat board as a result) +7
