4.1.1 Casting magic

Only characters with active magic talent may cast magic.

To cast magic, a character must do the following:

Casting dice roll result Detrimental effects if caster chooses magical effect to materialise as desired Detrimental effects if caster chooses magical effect not to materialise
Succeeds (i.e. dice roll result greater than or equal to difficulty) None None
Marginal failure (i.e. by less than or equal to 3 points) 1 tiredness level None
Minor failure (i.e. by more than 3 points but by less than or equal to 6 points) Scratch + 2 tiredness levels 1 tiredness level
Significant failure (i.e. by more than 6 points but by less than or equal to 8 points) Light wound + 3 tiredness levels Scratch + 2 tiredness levels
Serious failure (i.e. by more than 8 points but by less than or equal to 10 points) Medium wound + 4 tiredness levels Light wound + 2 tiredness levels
Major failure (i.e. by more than 10 points but by less than or equal to 12 points) Serious wound + 5 tiredness levels Light wound + 3 tiredness levels
Disastrous failure (i.e. by more than 12 points but by less than or equal to 14 points) Critical wound + 6 tiredness levels Medium wound + 3 tiredness levels
Total failure (i.e. by more than 14 points but less than or equal to 16 points) Fatal wound (i.e. caster struck dead) Serious wound + 4 tiredness levels + Backfire
