1.9.1 Approach to buying skill scores
A character's skill scores are obtained by
allocating cps to the skills. The way to buy skill scores is, therefore,
to allocate cps to them. There are two stages to this:
- During character generation, many of a character's skills will be
required as a result of his/her background.
The background bonuses he/she obtains also require him/her to allocate a
minimum number of cps to certain skills.
- Once all background skills have been bought, further cps may be
allocated to the same or new skills to increase their scores. During
character generation, there is a maximum number of extra cps
that can be allocated to any skill (based on the starting
cp value of the character).
- In later play, the character will be awarded
experience points and additional background
bonuses, that enable the player to allocate extra cps to the
character's skills, increasing his/her scores. A character's skill score
is based on the number of cps allocated to that skill. There is no limit
to the number of cps that may be allocated to a particular skill, though
limits (see 1.9.2) put a practical limit on
the number of cps it is sensible to allocate.
