1.9.6 Changing specialisms

A character's specialisms are not fixed for ever. It is possible to reallocate points to different specialisms during later play.

A character can reallocate points to different specialist areas if he/she has been using that different specialist area. Reallocation takes time to do. It takes less time if the character is intensively practising that specialist area or has been successfully taught about the area of specialism. After each day of intensive practice or week of general usage in a specialist area (halve the time if the character is being successfully taught), a character may reallocate one of the following:

For example, Cogan the Barbarian has a Melee skill score of 5. He has currently allocated 2 specialist bonus points to Swords (broad specialist area), 1 to right-handed use of Long Sword (narrow specialism), 1 to Axes (broad specialist area) and 1 to Knives (broad specialist area). His effective Melee skill score would be: 7 (5+1+1) using a Long Sword in his right hand, 6 (5+1) using a different Sword, 5 1/2 (5 + 1/2) using any Axe, 5 1/2 (5 + 1/2) using any Knife or 5 using any other Melee weapon. Cogan wants to improve his ability with the Two-handed sword and practises intensively with the Two-handed sword for a day. At the end of this time, he can reallocate one of the following:

Any of these options would increase Cogan's effective skill score with the Two-handed sword from 5 1/2 to 6.
