2.55.2 Decorating an item or fine work

A character may attempt to do fine work on metal items he/she is creating, for example to cut gemstones, make jewelry, repair weapons, decorate a sword blade or hilt, etc. When he/she attempts this, he/she should make a dice roll using his/her Smith (including relevant specialisms) + CO. If the character is working in metal, there is a modifier to the dice roll for the metal used.

The dice roll result determines the quality of the item produced (which will affect its value), as follows:

Dice roll result Meaning
Zero or less Botched
1/2 - 3 Poor
3 1/2 - 7 Average
7 1/2 - 12 Good
12 1/2 or more Excellent

Repair work takes half as long as creating an item from scratch. A botched repair or poor quality repair is quite likely to break again.
