2.58 Swimming skill

Governing characteristics: ST, CO

Represents: The skill of swimming on the surface and underwater, diving and surviving in the water.

Broad specialisms:

Swimming speed;
Swimming strength (for example, resisting currents, supporting weight such as another person without sinking, treading water to stay afloat for long periods of time, etc.);
Diving (i.e. jumping into the water from a height without hurting yourself);
Holding breath;
Judging water safety (for example, depth, current strengths, etc.).

Narrow specialisms:

Swimming speed in one particular style of swimming (e.g. back stroke, breast stroke, crawl);
Resisting currents;
Supporting weight (e.g. another person) without sinking;
Staying afloat (e.g. by treading water for long periods of time);
Diving style (i.e. somersaults etc.);
Diving effectiveness (i.e. reducing damage from falling into water by diving technique);
Judging depths;
Judging current strengths;
Judging another's Swimming skill score.
