Governing characteristics: ST,

Represents: The skill of swimming on the surface and underwater, diving
and surviving in the water.
Broad specialisms:
- Swimming speed;
- Swimming strength (for example, resisting currents, supporting weight
such as another person without sinking, treading water to stay afloat
for long periods of time, etc.);
- Diving (i.e. jumping into the water from a height without hurting
yourself);
- Holding breath;
- Judging water safety (for example, depth, current strengths, etc.).
Narrow specialisms:
- Swimming speed in one particular style of swimming (e.g. back stroke,
breast stroke, crawl);
- Resisting currents;
- Supporting weight (e.g. another person) without sinking;
- Staying afloat (e.g. by treading water for long periods of time);
- Diving style (i.e. somersaults etc.);
- Diving effectiveness (i.e. reducing damage from falling into water by
diving technique);
- Judging depths;
- Judging current strengths;
- Judging another's Swimming skill score.
