Note: These rules are intended to allow players a little more realism in their choice of what armour they wish to wear. The referee is free to decide that these rules are too complicated, and require characters to simply wear full suits of body armour and clothing.
Certain characters may wish to wear different types of armour on different areas of their body. In such cases, the following table shows how to calculate the weight, cost and encumbrance of an area 's armour from the area and armour type:
Area of the body | Cost | Weight |
Chest | 25% of full cost | 30% of full weight |
Abdomen (including Groin) | 15% of full cost | 20% of full weight |
Left arm (including Left hand) | 15% of full cost | 10% of full weight |
Right arm (including Right hand) | 15% of full cost | 10% of full weight |
Left leg | 15% of full cost | 15% of full weight |
Right leg | 15% of full cost | 15% of full weight |
Total | 100% of full cost | 100% of full weight |
The full cost and full weight are the cost and weight of a full suit of armour of that type.
Examples of pieces of armour are:
For example: Urlik is a short, muscular warrior of weight 72 kg. He is kitting up for battle in the frozen wilds. He decides to wear a Cuirass on his Chest (Partial Plate) with a chainmail shirt covering his arms and abdomen. To keep his encumbrance to a minimum he wears only leather armour on his legs. Over the top he wears a full suit of furs (Heavy Clothing undecorated) to keep out the cold. His body armour works out as follows:
Armour | Covering areas | Cost | Weight |
Partial Plate Cuirass | Chest | 12s 6d (25% x 50s ) | 8.64 kg (30% x 40% x 72kg) |
Light Mail Shirt | Abdomen, Left Arm, Right Arm | 5s 6d (45% x 12s) | 5.76 kg (40% x 20% x 72kg) |
Leather Boots & Trousers | Left Leg, Right Leg | 1s (30% x 3s) | 2.16 kg (30% x 10% x 72kg) |
Heavy clothing - plain | All body | 1s (100% x 1s) | 4.32 kg (100% x 6% x 72kg) |
Total | 20s | 20.88 kg |
